A trip to Ladakh offers a unique opportunity to see a variety of bird species in a dramatic high altitude setting. This trip focuses on major bird watching hotspots such as the Shey Swamp, Nubra Valley, Indus River Valley, and the high altitude lakes of Tso Kar and Tso Moriri. Expect to see a wide variety of resident birds such as Himalayan Snowcock, Black-necked Crane, Golden Eagle, and more. The trip involves a lot of time spent traveling through wetlands and riverbanks to barren mountains and alpine meadows, each of which has a different variety of birds. Knowledgeable local guides will help you learn and identify the local bird species. Bird watching is generally best from spring to early autumn, when the local birds are present and the weather is mild.

- Bird watching in Leh and its surrounding areas can be a rewarding experience in itself, and many of the common birds of the region can be seen in the vicinity of the hotel itself, including Western Yellow Wagtail (S), House Sparrow, Tickle Leaf Warbler (M), Barn Swallow (R), Red-rumped Swallow (S+M), Sulphur-bellied Warbler (M), Common Chiffchaff (S+M), Large-billed Crow (R), Mountain Chiffchaff (S+M), Common House Martin (S), and Black Redstart (R), to name a few.

- Spend the whole day today for bird watching and photography at Tso Moriri (88 km / 3.5 hrs).
- Key Species: Greylag Goose (S+W), Red-crested Pochard (R), Bar-headed Goose (W), Little Gull (W), Upland Buzzard (R), Golden Eagle (R), Saker Falcon (R), Northern Pintail (R), Eurasian Bittern (W), Eurasian Jackdaw (R), White-throated Dipper (R), Song Thrush (W), Lesser Grey Shrike (M), Spotted Flycatcher (M+W), Eversmann’s Redstart (W).
- Return to Tso Kar by evening.

- The scenery is spectacular as you cross high altitude mountain passes.
- Hold overnight and rest.
